How To Clean Your Persian Rug Yourself

You may have brought a Persian rug into your home to add style and warmth. However, over time, it can begin to look a bit worn. If it's looking worn or if you have begun to notice that it's looking a bit dingy, you can clean it yourself. A Persian rug should be cleaned often to keep it looking its best and to help lengthen its life. These rugs are not cheap, so to keep your investment looking like new, you need to clean it. Read on for some tips to help you clean your rug.

Vacuum Your Rug

You need to vacuum your rug often to remove loose dirt and dander. If you have pets, you may need to vacuum more often. Don't use the beater bar in your vacuum. Instead, you should use it either on a bare floor setting, or you can use an attachment to vacuum your rug. Never vacuum the fringes at the edges if your rug has them, as they may get sucked into the vacuum and could ruin the rug.

Remove Odors

Remove odors from your rug by sprinkling some baking soda into the rug, allowing it to soak up the odors, and then vacuuming the rug to remove the baking soda. To help remove more odors and give it a fresh scent, you can add some essential oils to the baking soda, then mix it together in a jar. Finally, sprinkle it onto the rug. This offers more than just a fresh scent. You can use lavender, peppermint, or even lemon scent for a clean scent for your rug.

Deep Clean

Give your rug a deeper clean by taking it out of your home and wetting it on either side with a garden hose. This is something you should do on a warm, sunny day, so it can have enough time to dry out. Wet the rug with a garden hose and then scrub it gently with a mild soap and water mixture. Spray it again to remove the soap, then allow it to dry out by laying it across some chairs or a couple of sawhorses.
