There are so many different ways to categorize furniture. One way we don't always see mentioned is to categorize furniture according to whether it is soft or hard. Soft furniture would include sofas, arm chairs, recliners, and settes. Hard furniture would include dining room tables, dressers, and nightstands. Of course, there can be some overlap here. An ottoman with a soft, pillow insert and hard sides might fall into both categories, or neither category, depending on how you look at it.
